CDR FAQ: Getting started

3. Getting started

Q1. How do I start using CDR ?

To request the use of CDR for your experiment, you should complete the online request for services form

Q2. What architectures are supported ?

For supported architectures, see the CDR home page under System requirements. Supported Operating Systems are HP-UX 10, AIX 4.3, SUN 5.6, Solaris 7 and 8 and Redhat 6.0 and later versions. Earlier OS versions than these are no longer supported.

Q3. My DAQ does not run a CDR supported OS.

CDR makes use of the rfcp program to transfer data to CASTOR and so CDR is only available on systems for which rfio is supported. This includes most of the UNIX variants that are in use at CERN.

Q4. How do I control (start/stop/restart) the CDR ?

Usually CDR support staff will do this. Tools are being developed to allow the user to do this during a run.
